Conerting Distributors.. Old Style to New

alright, what i am trying to accomplish here is convert my old style distibutor over to the newer style. I have todo this inorder to be able todo the LT1 Intake Swap. I have found a conversion kit but i want to know if its whats i would need

Summit HEI Conversion Kit $50
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=SUM%2D850013

Its the only kit i could find that i think does what i want it to do. Please tell me if i am wrong or this is a bad decision. Only reason i am looking at the Summit kit is becuase i consider summit to be a name brand, i have never bought one of their products that didn't work or perform exactly how they said it would. So me they are just as good as anyone else.

I will buy a new distributer if i have to, i just am trying to keep cost down. Also i dont knwo what kinda distributer i would need. I currently have a Accell HEI High Output Distributor Cap, but i cant use it accorind to john from LT1intake.com.

Help me out here guys.

Thanks,
Shane

That "kit" you posted will update non-HEI distributors to a HEI distributor. It will not convert your large cap HEI to a small cap HEI distributor which is what's required for the LT1 intake (or HSR as well).

A small cap (external coil) HEI distributor can be found in any '87-92 F-Body. A great place to get one used is from www.car-parts.com for under $40 complete.

You will then have to convert the wire harness so it connects to teh newer style distributor. Just ask for the electrical connectors when purchasing through the above link. Might as well ask for the coil and wires too while your at it.

The wire colors are the same on both distributors, all you will need to do is splice the new connectors to the engine harness wires.

Accel makes a harness kit just fopr this if you are not sure of your electrical abilitys. It's fairly expensive but it is "plug and play". The Accel part number is 74170. Here's a picture of it on my site.
