What Engine is in this?

First of all I'll get this out of the road just so you know, I'm kinda stupid, and was wondering what kind of engine the factory put in 1983 firebird Trans-ams. I have been thinking about buying one. I know it's a 305 tbi but was wodering if it is the high output and what kind of power it has. I was also wondering what the car's worth, it's got 73k and the body and paint is in good cond.

Thanks alot for any help you can give.

If it's TBI, it's not the HO motor.

It would be the Cross-Fire 305. 2 TBs, one on each side of the engine, each feeding the opposite side.

I have no clue what it's worth. I know that in 1983 I wouldn't even consider buying one. But other people's opinions may be different from mine.

I don't think you'll have too much trouble figuring out what kind of car I bought in 83.

It can be a carbed 305 (all they had were 305's and I believe V6's) and still not be an HO, but if it is a CFI (The crossfire RB referred to), those motors are weak, and a nightmare to work on. I had an 83, was a great car, I put a new engine in it and all, I loved it. Just look for body rust on the floorpan if it has t-tops, other than that, just the normal stuff to look for and u'r good.

Thanks for the help guys. If I get it I'll probably put a 350 in it and have some fun. How much power will the auto tranny and rear end take?

What kind of tranny and rear end can I install that won't make me file for bancruptcy. It will be a daily driver and I am planning on making power in the mid 300's. Thanks alot once more.

Plan to spend some money on a healthy tranny build up. I've estimated I'm making somewhere in the 350-375 FWHP range on a 4 month old motor and killed 2 700r4's so far. My 9 bolt is holding up but have noticed when cruising, it is humming louder than usual.

A T56 is in my future for this car. For what I've spent on trannies, I could already have swapped over
