My new badly running minirammed 383 pulls 7 inchs of vacuum at idle? my problem??
SubscribeIm still having a terrible time with my 85 vette with a afr 195 heads, 383, miniram running so terrible i havent actually been able to drive it. I hooked a vacuum gauge to it and it pulls 5 inchs of vacuum at an idle. that seems way low. The car falls on its face if you try to drive it anything over an idle and backfires and pops out the exhaust and intake.

What is your camshaft specs? and try rechecking your valve-lash adjustment.<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by Wayquick4u:

I reran the valves to make sure that wasnt a problem. Im running a Hydralic flat tappet - 224/240 .507/.510 - 110 I really think this cam isnt that radical and should pull 12-15 inchs of vacuum? Do you think its a big vacuum leak?

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem...
Check fuel pressure, all injectors working, pulse width, etc. It could possibly also be something wrong with the TPS.

Ssounds like you do have a leak or something. The blades on the T-body aren't opened up or nothing like that are they? Easy way to check for a vacuum leak is with a can of starter fluid. Just spray it in areas that you suspect a leak, around the runners, between the intake and heads, ect. Should make the engine stumble if you have a leak. You might be able to hear it with a piece of heater hose or something like that.Hope this helps you out.

What is your timing set at? What procedure did you use to set the valve lash? Do you have any vacuum leaks? Do you know what the computer is doing? -iac, timing, fuel delivery, proper sensor info, etc. Was the cam degreed? Have you done a leakdown or compression test? Do you have an auto or manual?
