iroc will not start
iroc will not start
My 89 iroc-z (5.0 tpi) is having trouble starting. I will turn the key to crank the engine and nothing happens. the fuel pump hums and I have power to all acessories but the car will not crank. I have recently replaced the starter, ignition switch, & had the steering colum checked. when the car does not start if i just leave it alone for about 5 minutes it will start. when it does not start i have tested the starter to see if it has power and it does not. i have tried to hot wire the starter and the car cranks but it will not lite up. If anybody has any opinions please let me know i am anxious to get this problem solved
Check VATS. It energizes a starter disable relay, as well as an ECM shutdown circuit if your key pellet is worn or your ignition cylinder has worn contacts. You can rectify the problem by using a new key or cylinder, or just bypassing VATS. Theres a tech article on how to do it on this site I believe.

Jarred,
This could be a bear to troubleshoot, so sorry about that.
You didn't say if which tranny you run and that could make a difference.
With my automatic camaro, the ignition wire went through the switch on the shifter base. Something else to check if the VATS-kill relay checks good.
good luck

Hi, I ran into another Camaro once with a similar problem. You said you had a five speed...try cranking it normally once, then the second time, jam the clutch as far to the floor as possible and then crank. It might be the switch on the clutch pedal is misadjusted.
