Plug wire resistance

OK, here's the resistance of the stock wires that came off my ROC (in ohms):

1-6980, 2-15150, 3-8470, 4-13340, 5-5600, 6-5770, 7-5880, 8-4500, coil-1870

The question is, if I pull the Accel 300+ off and put these back on, will they (particularly #2 and #4) cause the car to misfire and therefore make me think the Accels aren't the problem? I have a new coil and rebuilt the dist. awhile back too. Thanks for the help.

the resistance changes as the length changes, unless you know what it is new, or the per foot rating i think you're numbers are meaningless. i think moroso blue max wire are 800 ohms per foot, but i'm sure delco, msd, accel and everyone else uses differant resistance ratings.

Thanks for the response, ede. I know resistance is given per foot of wire, but I was just wondering if the total resistance of any of these individual wires could cause a miss or weak spark with our ignition systems.

well first off i'll say i'm way over my head talking about eletric stuff, but i think the fact that you have resistance is good, that the path is open from one end to the other. if the boots look good, there isn't any carbon tracking on the plugs i'd say run the wires.

Stock wires can have as much as 3000 ohms per foot and still be ok. More than that is pushing it, but its possible. As a guess it looks like those are on the high side, but probably ok to test things out with since none of them have infinite resistance.

Hey Jethro, are you a student at UT or do you just live in the area? I live in Clinton and work in Knoxville. And if you can believe what the ignition mfgs print the msd wires are rated at 50 ohms/ft.

I got my degree from UT and now I'm trying to get work at the nuclear weapons facility in Oak Ridge. I live here in Knoxville. Where do you work? Got any good jobs for engineers out there?

Seems like those 300+ wires claimed the lowest resistance per foot of any wire, but most people have had it with Accel and maybe I have too. Have you had good luck with the MSD's? Thanks man.

I have the MSD's on one of my cars, and they work fine.
I prefer Taylors tho, more color choices

You're fine but #2 is a bit high. Between 1000 and 10000 ohms is considered acceptable, but my car's running great with my 30,000 mile taylor wires and the lowest one of those is over 12k ohms. I made homemade looms (pics and maybe tech article soon! but i have to learm html) for my GMPP ones today, they're sweet red and say "chevrolet" with the bowtie along them and only have 60ohm/foot resistance. Plus they're waranteed!
