I got a code 53....w/in...

53 = High voltage at battery OR High voltage at exhaust gas recirculation valve OR Voltage reference error OR Problem at vehicle anti-theft system...

The Engine light came on at 55mph, and stayed on until I shut the car - it hasn't come back on yet...checked the codes and am getting 53..

Anything special I should check? '86 LG4 IROC-Z...

Thanks..

On a carb car, 53 is EGR related.

check http://www.monte-list.nu/tech/code53.shtml

Stuart,

'86 LG4, DTC 53, EGR vacuum sensor fault. Check the vacuum hoses, electrical connector, and EGR solenoid.

checked all the vacuum lines - disconnected the battery and so far in 150 miles of driving the light hasn't come back on...I guess that's good

Thanks everyone
