Running Like ****, Vaccum?

Hey guys, love asking newbish questions.

I bought my girlfriend a camaro form an auction lot, got it for cheap, runs. 305 LG4 , 1984 Camaro, Carburated 4 barrel. Automatic, Tons of emssision stuff, A\C and all the extras. Berlinetta. Ok here is the problem. The car has never really run well, but recently it has begging to have real problems. I suspect it is some air leak, but all the vaccum lines are plugged in the correct way. I suppose it may be the carburator gasket, here are the symptoms. Orginally, could never peel out, when pedel hit the floor, refused to accelerate in a quick fashion. Shifting hard, or refusing to shift untill you let up on the gas. Recently the car refused to go past 35 and simply would not sift, Acceleration is worse then her previous car, a 1982 LeBaron. Slow as **** its embarassing. What else could it be? Changed the Fuel Filter, Air Filter, oil is good, tranny fluid is full, brand new radiator, no overheating. Small gasket crack on driver side valve cover. And if you think its the carb gasket how to check? What leads me to think its the carb gasket, is i suppose when the gas is hit hard, there is more air then gas in the mix, which gives us 20-25 hp total (Not a real test, just numbers i made up) any help is nice, THANKS

Yes, check the cat. If you are still concerned about a vacuum leak, take a propane torch (not lit!!) and spray the propane around all the gaskets and lines while the car is running. If you have a vacuum leak, the engine will idle up if it sucks any propane in. Don't hold it to the air cleaner for obvious reasons.
