help it overheated!

I dropped my friend of at home after work and I was in front of his house with the car in park idle at 1000 rpms and it blew the cap of the coolant overflow tank and was steaming like a ****. whats the deal?
Also my oil pressure unit was reading really low when it happened(like 10-15 psi, normal is 20-30).

Few things you could check to find out what has happened. 1st thing I would do is check and see if your fan still works. (if the engine's cold turn on the A/C) If it comes on check for anly leaks at the water pump. There are pressure relief valves that will go if the pump goes bad. If neither show signs of wrong doing, let the engine warm up and watch to see if the fan comes on to cool things down. If that's ok check your thermostat and make sure that it didn't get stuck.
