To do a smog pump "delete" you just take off the belt that goes from the smog pump to the crank, right?

You can do just that. However, if you ever have to pass an emissions test, having the smog pump disconnected will burn up a lot of the check valves.

If you have to pass the test, better leave it alone.

If you don't and you want to get rid of all of that junk that gets in the way of even checking your oil, do it to it. I did, no problem. Search the archives and you'll find all of the steps needed.
