50 ways to leave your computer!

I was wondering if anyone has ever succesfuly manipulated their sensor readings in order to LIE to the computer for performance gains? Also, would changing to a pre computerized HEI dist. put control of the timing adv. back in my hands? I'm tired of every little NANO reading affecting my timing adv. and performance.

Theres plenty of ways to fool your computer. Theres a few aftermaket parts that just plug in between your sensors and the cpu to give performance gains. The only problem is that you can gain very little without reprograming your cpu's fuel and timing maps.
You could go to a pre cpu hei to have full control of timing but you will get a ses light and youll lose the safetys build into the cpu that prevent detonation. The cpu is programed to give you maximum spark advance without getting detonation. If your getting false knock readings your best bet is to figure out why and fix that problem.

is there a way to fool it into not sending off the check engine light? I'm removing the ECU imputs from my motor.. I'm going mechanical carb and pre-CC HEI on my 78 350. do I NEED to remove the computer? if I do, will it light up the check engine light?

I'm not getting false knock, I'm getting a code 32 which I've been getting since I installed my cat back system. I understand that backpresure is part of the operation in the EGR system, and when the EGR doesn't work properly, timing is affected.
After a 5 min. warm up in the garage, and 5mi. down the road, the car runs like a raped ape. 30 min. later, you can feel the timing just isn't there. Tourqe is down noticebly. I'm even starting to suspect my coil after 138,000 mi. I've performed the EGR tests and everything is in working order. The code is registering at part throttle crusing at 55-60 mph.
