codes 42 & 43
codes 42 & 43
electronic spark timing and electronic spark control. driving home from work today about 5 miles from being home cruising right along then all of a sudden i lose alot of power and the check engine light came on. made it a few miles to a little store where i stopped since i was overheating from the loss of power and i dont have my fans hooked up. sat there for a while waiting for it to cool down then started up and drove home. wasnt as bad then. yesterday i changed my ingnition control module and it seemed to be running great. oh and after i stopped i popped the hood to make sure there wasnt a fire and my drivers side manifold was glowing. any suggestions what to do? other than changing it over to a carb setup. that will come in the months to follow.
42 could have been set if you set the timing any time recently. it sets when you unplug the bypass. as for the 43, could be a number of things. Knock sensor, wiring, EST module (yellow module near ECM), ECM, Prom or distributor related parts. I'd start by erasing both codes and driving it till the light appears. then check and see what code you get and find a diagnostics chart for that code and follow it.

i have never even touched the timing. this has happened once before but after awhile it went away. seemed to only do it when i put it to the floor. i got the timing error once a few weeks ago after i first played with the control module but after i shut it off and started up again it was fine.
