I have a 85 v6 firebird with AC that i am parting out. The A/C system is new and converted to 134a. i am curious if i can use the compressor on my 83 v8. i know the 85 has the plug next to the pully and some round plug in the back of it. the v8 compressor only has the one plug on the pully.

would the compresser still work if i use it on the v8? even with only the one plug plugged in?

It should work. The back plug is for an overpressure switch.

I'm surprised you say it doesn't have it. My '86 does, as did an '87 that I came across.

The V6 hoses won't work on a V8, though.

 

but kragen/schuck's/advance has them for 99 bucks. ask me how i know, it's a funny story. make sure you get new o-rings with the lines, too.

lucilly my 82 V8 still has a intact system.. it just doesnt work. so by reusing the canister and the compresser ill save quite a fiew bucks!

 

Don't try to save money by reusing the receiver/dryer. Get a new one.

normally i would agree with you but this is a unique circumstance. i just retrofitted the car less than 6 months ago so its all new and good. =)

 

agreed. the only thing I'm re-using while doing a complete restification of the car is the compressor, condensor, and double tubes. basically, if it ain't broke, and costs more than $50, I'm keeping it
