84 T/A Specs and upgrade
I was wondering if there was a website with the specs for all the orginal equipment in a 1984 Transam 5.0 HO. (HO What a joke) I know it has the Chevy 305 L69. The trans has been swapped out so I'm wondering about that. The original had overdrive. A T350 is in it now so with the original rear, it tachs out on the highway. What are the original gears? They say with an automatic the gears are 3.42 or 3.73. What would be a good rear gear ratio with the T350. I'm thinking of doing these engine upgrades Anyone have any experience with this mod? Thanks ...Rich

There are both Tech Data and FAQ sections linked from the front page of the site. There is a lot of information about specifications, options, and features of F-cars over the years. That would be a good place to start.

If they had taken off the stock manifold, cleaned it up, put it back on with new gaskets and set the timing, etc., they probably would have gotten the same results. Interesting the Victor Jr. produced exactly the same power as the Performer.
Just the exaust, carb & dist change for their "baseline" was 52 HP over stock (but then, stock rating is "flywheel net" and they were getting flywheel gross).
A really interesting comparison would have been porting and gasket matching the stock heads and intake (and 1.94" intake valves in the stock heads), and running it again. Then bolt on the Worlds, then the cam (or vice versa), etc.
Rear gears depends upon your intended primary use and what you do to the engine.
I like the results of my mods, although more stall would be nice. Of course, I'm biased because I need to defend the choices I made...
