Distributer install question

I have an Olds 403 motor that has a points type distributer. I picked up an HEI disrtibuter that I want to install. Do I just mark where the rotor is pointing, pull the old one up, slide in the new one and have the rotor pointing in the same location? Will this be close enough to start the motor so I can set the timing?
Thanks
