I got a bare block and a budget, what to build...

ok, i just picked up a bare 350 block, i've gotta clean it up, and probably bore it .030 or so. I plan on using about a 2500 dollar budget, maybe a bit less so i can save some for suspension mods. So my question is, what should i build.? I want this thing to be fast, but still try to keep some economy, better than 10 hopefully. so im thinking some sort of fuel injection, i allready have a stock tpi setup, i ported the plenum, and siamesed the base, but may just sell on ebay for extra cash.
So any way, tell me what you think, what should i do? Thanx alot in advance.

as far as induction goes you could always sell most of the tpi setup on ebay and use the sensors, wiring, ecu, dist and TB and buy a modified LT1 intake from www.LT1intake.com.. do you plan on building it yourself? if you do you could get the machine work done and buy a rebuild kit and assemble it yourself and use the remaining money on the best heads and cam you can buy for it.. stroker kit would be a good option too

if you have a bare block i'd look for a builder block with crank and rods already in it unless replacing them is going to be part of your budget. if so it'll take a good bite out of it.

Nah, sounds like the perfect excuse for a 383 rotating assembly kit...

$2500 is a bit on the light side, regardless. After all, not only do you have to produce the power, you also have to be able to handle it. By the time you get the shortblock built, and buy cam & valvetrain pieces, heads, intake, carb, now you're up against exhaust and everything behind the flywheel - which is going to need help.

But, as to what to build: I don't normally talk like this, but I'd agred about selling the TPI. A simple carb setup will be much easier/cheaper to get going. Since you don't have emissions concerns there in Dorothy-land, old-school is in order.

I'd find out what went into the old 350 cubic inch 350hp engine, and copy it. That way you don't have to do any experimenting and maybe screwing up. I'm assuming this is your first engine.
You could probably pull that off for $2,500 by using an old school (recurved) HEI a used aluminum intake, and a rebuilt early Q-jet.

THe old 350HP combo, didn't make 350Hp. Anyway don't compy old outdated technology. New technology will kill anything older.

well, im think im going for the 383 as this is what ive had in mind for a while, and no this isnt my first engine. actually the engine in the car now is fairly fress, in fact it wont have been in the car for a full year for another month or two. its a 355, but nothing special, and i got this other block because i didnt want to tear down such a fresh, perfectly good motor.
as far as induction, i definately want some sort of efi, that said, im going to look into the lt1 intakes mentioned above. as for cams and such, any suggestions? oh by the way, ill be running anywhere between a 125 and 250 shot of n2o through this, and that isnt figured into the budget, its allready accompanying my 355. what fun.

Yep, I agree new tech will beat old school, but not for the same amount of money.
