Buying an L98 motor in my 86 T/A, what should I look out for?

I am thinking about buying an L98 motor from an 89 Iroc. The motor is complete with all accessories. The car had an automatic tranny. My 86 T/A has a manual tranny, which I know won't last too long, but I'll take it easy until I can swap the tranny.
What are some of the things to look for on that motor, and will I have any problems with the ECM since the Iroc was an automatic car?
I don't know how many miles are on the motor yet. The guy wants $900 for it, is this a good price?

Zepher,

You should try to get the seller to throw in teh ECM and harness with it. Your '86 has a cold start injector, but the '89 does not. Your '86 has one fan, ans the '89 was designed for two. You'll need a custom PROM for the 350, the knock sensor, and ESC unit. Your '86 has the coil in the distributor cap, and the '89 has a separate coil. Some of the wire on your harness might be short, leftover, or missing.

You'll need a custom PROM because the PROM in your ECM won't have teh correct fuel and spark curves for the 350, and the 350 PROM will have an output for the automatic's TCC. Unless you disable the SHIFT lamp, you'll have it on all the time when cruising down the road over 41 MPH at moderate throttle openings.

It can be done, but will involve a little work to do it correctly.

i would go for it. are the T5s that weak they cant stand up to a 225 HP 350.ya know ive always wonder if the GM put a 5speed behind a 350 in a IROC or GTA if it would smoke a rustang. what do you guys think.
