Do i have an ignition problem???

OK this is a question about my brothers 94 formula yea yea i know its not a third gen but its a general tech questoin that you guys can help me solve anyway. Well heres the problem for some reason the last few days my brother cannot get the RPMS past lets say 2300. Even if i put the pedal to the floor it will still not go.THis is the same when the car is in nutral also so it cant be the tranny or rear end. The motor still has oil pressure and there is no indication that there is overheating. I also cannot hear any kind of knocking sound comming from the block. The motor does have about 135,000 miles on it but that should have no affect. These LT1 motors are pritty strong as long as you dont mess with them. I belive the car just need new plugs, wiers, a rotor, and cap you know just the normal tune up. I figured i might as well toss in some bigger injectors and an MSD coil pack as well. If anyone thinks that im in over my head and should take this to a pro please let me know. Any kind of input or just anything you think i might have missed please feel free to add you comment thank you.

I believe you are probably right. Plugs, Wires, cap, and rotor may well solve the problem. The cap and rotor swap, however, may not be as easy as you might initially think. The LT1 uses an OptiSpark system, and the distributor is located behind the harmonic balancer. A new cap and rotor is about $140, and takes about a day to replace correctly.

I've heard of Optis lasting anywhere from 60,000 to 140,000 miles before failing as you describe. My first one started to exhibit symptoms of failure at 108K.
