Cheap Mods I just finished Check out total Price/Performance ratio
Started off with an '84 Z 28, with of course an L69, all stock.
Here's what I've done for the car, tell me what you think, or try it yourself. It's cheap!!!
No sniffer test here, so I removed all of the emissions and computer junk---price-free.
Biggest benefit--easy to work on now!!
Open air 14" Mr. Gasket air filter and Mr. Gasket Crank case breather--price $50.00
HEI vacuum advance distributor off of ebay---$25.00
Set timing at 10*
New plugs----price---$25.00
(Wires are like new)
New fuel filter---$3.00
New pvc valve----$3.00
Misc. vaccum hoses and plugs--$5.00
Have an old Qjet rated at 650 cfm, but need to "open" it up a bit first.
Total price out the door: $111.00.
Now I don't have access or budget for a dyno before or after, but SOP (Seat of Pants)testing tells me that I'm saving about 1 second on zero to 60 time and my ease through the power band due to the timing is great. I know that I need to get a non computer controlled carb on here so I can tune it properly, but even like it is---Whoa Mama!!!
I needed the air filter because I've got a new intake coming in, and will need the clearance. Sounds real cool though!!!
Anyhow, I'm going to add a vacuum canister kit for the HEI, $25.00 and even with the stock intake and cam, this isn't so bad for well under $150.00, this engine has really woken up nicely....WOW!!!!
Thanks to Bort who helped walk me through this....
Next mods will be applying the new intake $95 Weiand Stealth (used)
Hooker competition headers $140.00
Comp Cam kit CCA CL12-238-12, of course the proper springs, and we're flying high for around $500.00.
Also changing all of the gaskets Trick flow set costs $50.00. Then I'll run Mobil 1 only.
