weird noise...help
weird noise...help
I had a friend remove my y-pipe to weld a crack. Upon removal, a manifold bolt broke and we had to tap it. Now when I take off... it sounds like something is rubbing right behind the engine compartment. The noise is only at take-off and only when I give it a little extra gas. It didn't start until I put the old y-pipe back on. It almost sounds like amplified wheel bearings going out but it's not the bearings, I replaced them a year ago and bearings would make the noise consistantly. Any ideas??????

Yellow,
I'm guessing that the alignment of the 'Y' pipe is now a little different than it was originally, and that part of the exhaust system is hitting the bottom of the car on acceleration. The torque of the engine can twist up the drive line pretty well, so having adequate clearance is a must. Check for signs of fresh contact with the floor pan and adjust as necessary.

thanks for your suggestions... it could be either or. Motor mounts are about the only thing I haven't replaced yet. The car has about 108K miles so that's possible. Anyone know how much mounts run for my car and how hard they'd be to install? Also another question. I turn 21 in about a week and I talked my parents into buying SLP (1 3/4") headers but I'll be buying the kit without AIR because I live in Illinois and they just don't care about emissions. Will the kit come with everything I need...bolts, y-pipe, flanges, and good quality gaskets? Anyone installed headers? Will I need to tap dents to fit on my car...that'd suck? Thanks in advance.
