Fuel pump not working.

Well we tested it out today...we got spark, no fuel...fuel pump is not working. I just had it replaced 4 months ago...what are some problems that might be causing the fuel pump to not function besides the pump being bad? I guess ill just run through the diagnostics chart.Anything to look for that you guys can think of?

it has to have power.
check the power wire right before it goes into the top of the fuel tank. If it has no power then there's the problem.

What fuel pressure are you running? A lot of people buy into this myth that "More fuel is better" and being fuelish (I couldn't resist the pun).

You don't mention your induction system, but cranking up the fuel pressure is not a great thing to do. Besides causing you to run overly rich (and loosing power), it also shortens your fuel pump's life and fuel injectors.

The irony is the stock GM eprom (and most of those useless "off-the-shelf" eproms that basically are a copy of a GM eprom with a dash more spark) tend to be already overly rich (for warranty issues).

I am just bringing up this issue as too many people mistakely bought into TPIS' "advertisement disguised as a Tips Book that more fuel pressure is better.

Hopefully it is just "no power" as ODB suggests. BTW, there is a relay that checks your oil pressure that controls your fuel pump. This is a safety device to ensure that if your oil pump fails or your engine has insufficient oil pressure, that your engine won't kill itself. Check that out too.

I'm having the same problem right now. It looks like there is at least 3 people on this board that are having the same problem at once - that's really weird. I just ordered a new fuel pump. Glenn, where is the relay for the oil pressure? i've checked the haynes manual and couldn't find it in there.

Well i have a diagnostic chart that TomP posted a while ago. It goes through a series of tests and tells you what the problem is, you can find it here https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000147.html
I havent adjusted my fuel pressure at all. I had been getting a code 54 for a while, then the other day i was going to install a manual fan switch and accidentally grounded the green/white wire on the fuel pump relay instead of the fan relay...Now the car wont start. Ive also heard it can be the ignition module. I just got the pump replaced 4 months ago so i really hope its not the pump itself. And i also hope its not the ecm, but if it is, im just gonna make my switch to tpi now instead of later.

Double check the ground. Mine was under the passenger seat and would only work if someone was in the seat to press the ground into a good contact.

I did have this problem once. I changed the pump and still no fuel pressure. Well it turned out to be the oil pressure sensor! Yes i know it might sound wierd, but there is a switch inside that will not turn on the fuel pump until there is positive oil pressure. It acts as a safety also, when your car losses oil press. it will kill the motor (hopefully before you do). I hope this is your problem also. It is easy to change, if i remember it screws into the block right above the oil filter. And finally the oil pressure guage will probably still register pressure as your trying to start it, but if the switch inside is broke your not gonna get any fuel
