Comp lifters, Whats up with the noise?
I'm just curious if anyone else has had valvetrain noise with thier comp lifters? Are they fast bleed? I always thought they were just plain standard hyd lifters nothing special but Ive use a couple sets now that make noise after a decent run time 30-40 minutes or so, not as bad a Rhodes lifters but its just annoying to hear noise espcially when everything else sounds soo good.

I`ve had many problems with the comp lifters, soo much that I never use them anymore, I buy regular lifters from the local guy and use them with the comp cams. They say there is no difference but it`s not true..they tick period. You`d better get a good set in there before that cam is completley broke in. New lifters and old cam make a flat cam. Good luck

The oil I use is either valvoline dino juice 10-30w or M1 if its on sale, for cam break in i was using valvoline currently has M1 in the system after 200 miles on the new cam. Oil pressure at the lowest point 215-220* coolant temp is 25 PSI 600 RPM.
Usually I run Rhoad lifters for special builds which I expect to make noise or Melling lifters if I cant find Hi-Tech which are my prefrence since they have special groves cut in them to retain oil.

take my advice and dont use the fast bleeds unless your turning 6000+ on your motor......i just took my cranes out. they are the noisiest lifters ive ever heard, it makes your drivetrain sound out of adjustment...........just my .02

Usually I build ALL my setups to make power over 6k bottem end wise, why skimp on the hard to replace parts?
This engine's bottem end was built for high RPM but the application that I'm using it in along with the cam (Crane Power Max, 272-2) isnt real agressive just somthing to putt around in with enough grunt to keep rustangs far behind unlike the Malibu's 427
. I just happend to have a few new sets of comp lifters figured I'd save a few bucks for once
