How much will a tune up help?

I just bought an 89 IROC with a 350 and it seems quite sluggish for a 350. The previous owner BEFORE the guy I bought it said that it needed a tune up, so it apparently has needed one for months. Anyway, just curious - how much can a good tuneup really help?

It really depends how bad of shape the stuff is in. It may make a huge difference and it may make no difference at all depending on the condition of the parts replaced.

It seems to run 'smoothly' - it just seems as though it is lacking power.

Sounds like my car when I bought it. It felt like a weak 305 and I almost didn't buy because it felt so weak. The tune-up really woke it up and I was impressed of what a tune-up actually did for it. Of course as the previous post, it just depends on the condition of the parts your'e dealing with. It may do wonders, it may not, do it anyways cause it wont hurt.

A weak L98... sounds about right.

A tune up can't hurt the situation. I'd check your initial and total timing. That can make all the difference in the world. If the wires lok old an crusty, replace them. a full tune-up only costs about 50 bucks so you might as well. Also, check your fuel presure.
