Spark Crossfire?
Spark Crossfire?
I'm trying to figure out an ignition problem. I have a balancer cover that has marks every 90 degrees. If I hook up my timing light up to my #5 cylinder, I usually see one of the 90 marks, but sometimes it will show the timing marks near TDC. I assume this is from the cyl 6 spark. I have fairly new SpiroPro Taylor wires, which I've read mixed reviews on, so I've put some old Accel wires on cyl. 3, 5 and 6 to see if it just the wires causing the crossfire. The problem was still there with the Accel's, so it doesn't seem to be the wires. The distributor cap and rotor are fairly new, so this wouldn't be due to any type of old cap problems.
Can a new cap cause crossfire? The plugs are new, but I can swap #6 out if a bad plug with high of resistance might cause crossfire.
Anyone have a possible explanation?
Thanks.

I've run those same wires for the last 15 years or so on everything I have; cars, boats, etc. They work fine. They're not the problem, at least not if they're properly installed, and routed correctly: not running all together their whole length, which would be tough for #5 & #6 anyway.
I'd suspect that your rotor's contact is off to one side. If the cap isn't perfectly lined up and seated, it will be slightly cocked, and the rotor contact tip will hit it and get knocked off into the ozone.
