86-earlier intake on 87-later heads?

I have heard some people say you just elongate the center bolt holes and it works. Does it work?

I elongated the holes and made "washers" with a 15 degree angle built in. Its been on there 55K miles without a problem. I have also heard of using rocker arm ***** as washers to compensate for the angular difference. Havent tried it myself
