Help removing L98 short block from car......
I'm new to engine swaps and can't seem to find a way to get to the 6 bolts that attach the 700R4 to the engine. The engine has been torn down to the short block for a while, but now I've decided to yank it to tear that down as well and stroke it, but I've never pulled an engine before. Is there a way to remove the short block, and still keep the trans in the car?
Thanks,
- Joel

Yes, you can get in there. A thirdgen is actually more accessible than a lot of vehicles of that era. IIRC, you need to get the lower 4 from the bottom of the car.
I found a self ratcheting wrench was a requirement for one, unless you wanted to spend 3 hours getting it an eighth turn at a time.

I just did a L98 motor swap last november. The bottom four can be gotten from underneath with about 12-15 inches worth of extensions, a ujoint connector, and 3/8's drive rachet. The top three were pretty easy to get to with a standard wrench, but one of those nifty twist neck ones would be nice too
IF you have any other questions about your swap let me know. aj4122@wayne.edu
Good Luck!

I have pulled my motor out of my '87 twice now, the last time last Jan 2... I pulled the motor with the tranny.
I think that the biggest benefit of pulling the two tegether is actually when you reinstall the motor. The tranny is already bolted up to the block. I have heard people having big problems in getting the motor and tranny to line up right if the tranny is left in the car.
IMO, I think that it is easier to remove the extra stuff to get the tranny out with the motor than to fight with those 6 tranny/block bolts two times over.
