dual snorkel keeping hood from barely closing????

I installed an L69 H.O. snorkel today on my 86 Trans am and it seems like the hood will go down if forced ,but it is millimeters from snapping locked. I don't want to force it any more than that. Is this something normal for Trans ams with carb V-8s. Can I make any adjustments for clearance? Will it still be too close and cause hood damage ? It seems like the right snorkels vacuum diaphram is higher than the air cleaner lid. Any suggestions appreciated!!

If you still have the hood insulation, you can cut a circle where the air cleaner hits the hood. That should help clearance.

Do you have a high rise intake? You might try to do the insulation thing like 84 Trans Am said. I know this seems obvious but have you checked to see if the base of the air cleaner is completely flat against the carb?

Yes, I still have the original hood insulation. I guess I could talc powder the air cleaner, close the hood and remove the contact areas. I don't have a high rise or carb spacer, everything is stock(lg4). But it doesn't appear that removing that thin insulation would help. It seems that there should be at least 1/2 " clearance in there. Maybe there was something different in the design of H.O. Trans Ams than Z 28s. Are the dual snorkels the same?

Same engines, same car platforms, different hoods. Trans Ams had the "rear-facing ram-air" could be a problem that you're encountering, i doubt it though, since there was a box that took up this space. It's right on the drivers side in front of their face, offset to the driver's right a bit.

thanks dudes for all the info. Found the problem today. It was those front plastic air inlets. Had to cut the hood insulation abve them. Powdered a few things up and slowly let the hood down ,There it was !! But I was wondering , How the heck does any fresh air get there?? The hide-aways and inner hood bulges seem to block those passages.
