Spark Plug Wire Routs in motor compartment.

I had just done a tune up on my 1992 RS (spark plugs, wire, cap, rotor. etc...) I didn't have the seperaters to hold the wires in lpace so until i got them I placed a tie holding them all together just to go to the auto parts store. I didnt notice one was touching the exhaust manifold. It was runing really good until it got hot. I got to the auto parts store bought the parts and went home and waited until it cooled down. I put in the spark plug wire seperator and the car ran fine afterwards. Does the wire touching the exhaust and them being together really make that much of a difference or do I have something else that good be wrong? The motor is 305 TBI.

Thanks

plug wire

the way I understand it is letting a plug wire touch the exaust is bad because the exaust could melt through the coating on the wire then cause a problem. personally I use zip ties to keep all my wires away from the exaust. and yes anybody that sees this I know thats the ghetto way of doing it but it works for now.

It would be a good idea not to let you wires rest on the exhaust. THey will melt so the best thing to do is to route them away somehow. Do not let your wires rest on each other. Even though it might not be a big deal at first but the currents will eventualy jump and create a power loss. THey will do better with those seperators in.
