NEED HELP ASAP!!!!!!
hey guys,
a friend of mine is having some trouble with her 92RS with the 5.0L and we need to get it figured out quick.
the problem is that it keeps shutting off. it will run for awhile, but then the check engine light will flicker a few times and then it cuts off. after sitting for about a minute or so, it will fire back up , but during that minute it wont crank or anything. any help or you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.
and does anyone remember how to scan the computer with a paper clip???
peace,

88SC,
You have a loose electrical connection somewhere. Starting from the battery positive and negative connections, follow the power and ground back up toward the ignition switch.
I believe the 92's have multiple relays, not to mention VATS to diagnose, so someone with another '92 can be of more help than I can - and a BSEE wouldn't hurt here either.....and I'm a "cold wire" guy.
Uh, coils can become overheated and fail too......yup, ask some of the smarter guys, not me.
I'm just a Box of Rocks.

check ypur battery wires thats all it is. justa really bad connection! ok in that min. you said try to keep turning the key forward, i garantee that it will eventually click and start if its electrical problems sound like the ground isn't grounded.

Yeah, it sounds like an intermittent wiring problem, or something to do with the VATS, maybe? One quick question to help with the diagnosis: when the car dies and won't start, do you have power at that time? I mean, do the headlights, radio, etc. work? Knowing what does and doesn't work will help you figure out where to look for the problem.

It shouldn't be VAT's, I can take my key out of the car when it's running, with no problems.
If no codes are stored and if the tach sorta jumps in time with the SE light flashing, I'd be thinking ignition module or PU coil.
Others bring up a good point...check all the little grounds on the rear of the heads, make sure they're not loose, and have good contact.
