Carbed SBC wont start, new batt, starter, and fuel in carb still no start.
as it says, she cranks but no start. tryed a search but other peoples problems are so vast, I cannot pin point the problem, I figure ignition maybe? but where to start. motor was jsut rebuilt ran for a while then was parked for a month. batt was checked, so was coil n such

well its carb so you're probably getting fuel, but double check that. you've gotta be getting air, so that's a given. and the most important thing to check is spark. pull a spark plug wire off and rest it close to the intake manifold and crank. if you're getting a spark then awesome, your problem lies deeper. if not, you know its an ignition problem and you can work from there.

new to carbs 
looking at picking upa great deal opn car left behind by someone that moved. motor was jsut rebuilt. .010 over, edelbrock this and that.
starteer spins, she stumbles to crank but wont hold and run, deff no spark.
where to start in ignition..?

Take the cap off and see if the rotor is good. Sometimes a hole will be burnt blear through it or the metal contact gets broken off or bent out of alignment. They are cheap, just get a new one. But make sure it has brass contacts. Look and see if the cap itself is cracked. Again, get one with brass contacts.
After that have the coil and ignition module checked at a parts store. Most of the time, in my experience with HEI, it is the module that has kicked the bucket. If so, make sure to get a quality brand name replacement. There are a lot of cheap ones out there that will last 3 months and kick the bucket again
