oil filter adapter need seal?

I am swapping everthing from my 305 to my zz430. I pulled the spin on oil filter adapter off the 305 and it did not have a seal? Do I need a seal?

How does that oil filter adapter fit onto the block anyway? I thought there were little bolts that went through it, but when I ordered them from Chevy I got some kind of studs instead?

2 bolts hold it on, no gasket.

If you don't have the bolts, you must use allens or the original type bolts. The socket head is smaller than normal to clear the oil filter.

The ones with an oil cooler have a paper gasket and an O-ring beteen the block and the adapter.

Yea, I replaced the o-ring on my GTA, it was leaking after I took it off for a few months to change the engine. That o-ring is impossible to find, first time I had to special order something from the dealer (I was in a huge rush to try out my new engine and wanted to find it in stock..)

Anyone have the size on those bolts? Is the head smaller than normal? Why the hell did the dealer sell me studs for it?

Paul,

It appears that your dealer gave you the wrong stuff?

I have a concern on this too. I recently swapped the adapter from my 305 to a brand new GM 350. There is a black "pressure valve" thingy on the adapter. Does that thingy have to face a certain way? Meaning that the adapter can go on "this way" or "that way"...is either way the right way or does it even matter? Thanks!

It doesn't matter which way you face the by pass valve. I usually look at the engine where it mounts, you will see where it was.

Yes, the heads of the bolts are smaller than normal. Use allens or get the right bolts from GM.

I'll look tonight at the size.
