Okay gear heads...
Okay gear heads...
I'm about ready to massage my engine.
My sig shows what my car has...my goal is to get into the 11's in quarter mile, 7s in eighth. I would prefer to keep L98 350 pretty much stock looking. I also prefer to use lower rpm ranges than what most seem to run...so that would mean eliminating companies like TPIS and the miniram. I am inclined to use LPE and their SuperRAm. I would drive this car regularly expect when drag racing is necessary to satisfy the urge.
QUESTION IS: With money not being much of an issue (to the brink of death by the wife)...what should I do to my motor specifically to reach my goal (Heads, Cam, Intake, Runners, Fuel Pressure, Throttle Body Size, etc.)??? If I must use a power adder, So Be It. I would have no problems changing my rear gears as well. I'm new at car crafting, and am learning constantly. I would prefer to keep stock bottom end at this time if at all possible.
Any responses are appreciated.

I think your gears are perfect already.
how do you want to be launching the thing?
are you going slicks +converter, or just driving it out on treaded tires?
it will make a big difference on how you build to get in the 11's.
It could be as simple as a small nitrous system, or many more mods.

Smith,
If you want to use the lower RPM ranges, you'll need a lot more stroke than the L98 has to get it rockin' quickly enough to produce decnt times. Either that, or you'll have to shave a lot of weight off the car, and a daily driver can't afford to get too lean.
If you look at some of the common formulas for HP, torque, mass, and speed runs, you'll see that the ¼ times are a function of all those factors.
You'll need over 450HP and 430 lb/ft of torque to propel a standard (3,300 lb.) F-body a ¼ mile in 11 second times. This can be done, but will be difficult to retain the daily mild-mannered driveability you might expect. If you use a power adder and/or lighten the car, the job will be a lot easier.

I will want to use street-legal tires (BFG Drag's, etc.). Anything DOT approved.
Torque Converter?...If I need it. But I want it to be driveable on the street. (My knowledge of torque converters is relatively limited. Know how they work generally, but application is hazy.
Launch?...Relatively quick. I'd rather get a jump on someone and hold it than play catch up.
400s in torque and hp is a lot. I'd be willing to "settle" for low 12's, and then juice it into the 11's. If possible I'd rather stay off the drugs. if anything, I might be willing to take it to a professional to install a turbo.
I want the car to be streetable, and somewhat undercover. Car won't be a daily driver, just one I will drive often. Lots of F***** mustystanks in ALabama. Whatever it takes...
Maybe I can make simplify the question:
How much horsepower and torque can I expect to make with a 350 L98 using aftermarket parts? Cost is not an issue. I would prefer to shy away from TPIS and Mini Ram. Would probably go with companies such as LPE, SLP, Comp Cams, etc...proven, quality companies.
