please look inside.......
I know this is non-tech...but it does relate.
I would like this to be seen so it may shed some light on to the subject. This is a reply to a question I directed to Pontac Motor Division concerning the demise of the camaro/firebird line at the end of the 2002 production run.. this is what he had to say..
"Dear Jonathan Lucas,
Thank you for your e-mail regarding the future of the Chevrolet Camaro and
Pontiac Firebird.
While as a policy General Motors Corp. does not publicly discuss its long-term
future product plans,
recent reports of the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird's pending demise are
inaccurate.
GM has stated previously that the company is committed to continue operation of
the Ste. Therese,
Quebec, plant through the term of the current Canadian Auto Workers contract
that expires in fall
2002.
At this time, no product has been assigned to the plant after that date, but GM
continues to study
possible options. Nothing has changed concerning GM's production plans for the
Camaro and Firebird.
Special editions of the Camaro and Firebird are in development for the 2002
model year.
If you have further questions feel free to contact our Customer Assistance
Center at 1-800-762-2737.
Thank you for your internet communication."

Yes they are gone for sure. May see the Camaro back in a couple of years but as it looks the Firebird looks to be history.
That email is the same they've been sending out for the last couple of years.

Besides, we all own f-bodies already, right? I don't understand all the fuss. GM's killed great cars before, and they're going to keep doing it. If the sales were high enough, the car would've survived. Blame all the SUV-owners & Mustang owners, not GM.
No I would blame GM , they produced week cars for so long that they drove there faithfull away . why would you Blame someone for buying a mustang , its the best bang for your buck. Gm needs to realize they cant sell 200,000 f-bodies a year anymore plain and simple.
The Camaro and Firebird have outperformed the Mustang for the better part of the past decade, the problem is with the comfort of the cars (e.g. - that hump in the passenger side floorboard on fourth-gens) and questionable looks on some models (LT1). My vote for the resurrection of the third-gen body style

i think that the 5th generation camaro firebird should be a retro/futuristic car. what i mean by this is to do what chrysler has been doind wiht its concepts. make them new withe the lates technology but when it comes to looks incoorperate some old school cues. if i was artistic at all i would show something like the idea i have in my head but i cant even draw stick figures right!!!
if they could do this and not make the goddamn car so ****ing expensive then i htink they could sell a ton of em
just my opinion though

I think the new Firebird (for 2003) should be a 89' style GTA with a T56, LS1, Ram Air Hood, 3.73's, better T-Top seals....etc
That would be awesome, and they'd get my money for it!...but it's just a dream...

I know we all own third-gens, but i'd like to see them bring back a style similar to the 2nd gens. You just cant beat a '73 Trans Am for that classic muscle car look. And to address the mustang issue, I'd blame GM too. even though F-bodies have outperformed Mustangs since 1993 with the LT-1 and LS-1, they werent very comfortable cars. My mom had a '97 Z-28 and i hated riding in the back cuz i couldnt see anything. The mustangs have always appealed to the public, and even if F-bodies are hella fast, that doesnt mean the public is gonna buy them. THeres more to just cars than engines. The people have spoken...and they choose V-6 Stangs and huge SUV's...

If they do kill the Firebird I'm betting on a new GTO. Chevy might bring back a Chevelle or something. That seems to be the trend with the Malabu and Monte... If they don't I think it will hurt them. Sales of the f-body is not as important as image.. Kill the fbody and I bet there SUV sales will drop.. I think there major problem was with the new camaro body style.. I loved 1st 2nd and 3rd gens but 4th... Yack... They did a good job with the 4th gen birds but they should have went with a more thirdgen frontend for the camaro and standard ground fx. just my 2cents.
i personally like the fourth gens...but i agree the front end got funked around 98 or 99...but i was just checkin out a brand new camaro ss the other day and ****, that thing looked sweet!! no funky front end, and...i dunno...i was about to go rob a bank

There will be a Yello ram-air trans am in 2002.
My cousin works there, he's the manager of the staff who takes care of the production line, building it, fixing. after 2002, there gonna build some **** like the grand am, or some stuff like that.
