Need Help with engine problem I am not sure what is wrong in 87Camaro RS
Hi guys I drive a 87 Camaro RS V6 5-speed its all custom technicaly wise. Anyways here is my problem a few months ago my RPM started idleing at like 3000 and then it went to 3500 idle so I knew something was wrong anyways after a few weeks the car just started to stall by dropping the rpms really low especially when I would just start it, I would need to give it gas because otherwise it would just stall, it also sounded like as if it was choking plus the check engine light was on. Anyways I took it for repairs and the mechanic said it was the oxygen sensor, so I was like okay fix it, so he did. Here comes the problem it now doesnt idle at 3000 but around 1000 like it should but from time to time it starts choking like it drops the rpms to 700or so and then it quickyl jumps upto about 1200 and then settles down, also about once per month the check engine light comes on I had it checked and they told me its a soft code so they cant figure out whats wrong with it. Could it be that the oxygen sensor is still screwed or that the mechanic did a **** job installing it, by the way it has never stalled after he put the sensor in. PLEASE HELP ME out I need to fix this since I am going to sell my car soon and this is a problem, thx a ton for any help
First learn to check your own codes.
Get a piece of wire and jump the two upper right terminals on the ALDL.
The ALDL is a little "socket" under the drivers side dash on the right side of the steering wheel, it looks like a computer could plug into it.
Jump the two terminals and turn your key, but don't start the car.
Count the flashes of the Service Engine Soon light. It will flash a code 12 three times before it flashes any trouble codes.
You have to count the flashes because they are like morse code, code 12 = flash, two quick flashes.
code 36 = 3 quick flashes, 6 quick flashes.
At the end of the code reading, a code 12 will flash three more times.
Figure out what your codes are, and get back with me. E-mail me or something
