Servo cover won't come off

I posted this in the transmission/driveline forum but I kinda need help faster than they're giving it to me. Normally I don't cross post like that, but whatever

Anyway, how do I get the servo cover off? I'm trying to put a vette servo in this weekend and it's not coming off. I tried pushing it inward with a prybar but it's not budging.

Did you already get the round wire lock ring out of the groove?

You need to push the cover inward (toward the trans) and then work the wire ring from the groove in the the cover 'bore'. I used a bar against the tranny tunnel, toook a little bit of work. Once the ring is off, the cover should slide right out and give you no problems. You might need to lower the trans to access the servo, however.

Nope, I don't even see it. I can't get the cover to go in even a fraction of an inch. I've tried a breaker bar against it and used the transmission tunnel as a pivot... no luck.

Thoroughly clean the perimeter of the cover and apply a penetrating oil, then be patient.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

when you take the lock ring off you may also have to cut off the O-ring inside and pull it out before the cover comes off. that's what i had to do.
