Oil pressure at 16, car slow as crap. Sending unit?

My car stalled and died a couple of nights ago..it also made a really loud(for a fuel pump) whineing sort of noise that has only been there when I am very low on gas. My oil pressure is ussualy 35 or so at idle..but it's been getting around 15-17. It scares the crap outta me..It feels WAY slower too. I was thinking this could be a two part problem..I just put on my TPiS AFPR. I set it to 48 psi with the vacuum hose disconnected..but I didn't plug it. Does this step really matter? It didn't seem to make ANY differnce plugged or unplugged. When I put the vacuum hose back on the AFPR I noticed that metal piece the hose was sliding on to was not at all tightly screwed in. I don't know if this is normal or not..I tried to screw it in the best I could with out burning my knuckles off...I was thinking maybe my fuel pump was soon to be dead before the AFPR install and now that I raised the pressure some, it killed it altogether. I was going to pick up a venting gas cap and an oil pressure sending unit..I don't see how the oil pressure is related to the AFPR..I'd understand if it were backwards..If I screwed up the oil sending unit and it turned the pump off..Let me recap/simplify. Put AFPR on, set to 48psi, week later oil pressure at 15, car stalled. Car runs crappy and seems like high 15 secondish 1/4 and after 45 minutes of stop and go, oil pressure at idle is 15-7psi. I put STP Complete Fuel System Treatment in and Marvel Mystery oil..seemed to help a hair..could be imagining that though..Ideas?

I'm not really sure what's going on here, but there are a couple of things to try.

The lower oil pressure may be the result of fuel diluting the oil. If you have the FP set too high, you could be putting so much fuel into the engine to foul plugs and dilute the oil (Making it thinner and thus causing lower pressure).

Change the oil and filter. Inspect all the plugs.

Reset the fuel pressure and this time block the vacuum line. If the plugs are black or very dark, you definitely have a fuel problem.

Start with the factory pressure setting.

You'd need a fuel pressure gauge,()which I assume you have since you set the pressure at 48 psi) to test whether you have a leaking injector or perhaps a leaking fuel pressure regulator.

Checking for these involves squeezing off the pressure line to the fuel rails while watching the gauge, then squeezing of the return line while watching the gauge.

Depending on what the pressure does, you can zero in on what's leaking. If you need the step by step shoot me a line.

You'll need to remove the fitting that you found loose and wrap the threads with teflon tape and reinstall it so it won't leak vacuum. Might as well do both while your at it.

lm sure you have, but just in case, have you check to make sure that the oil level is where its supposed to be?

l had a similar problem. My oil pressure gauge was acting up and my alternator gauge decided to show an 8 volt reading vs 13volts. l didnt bother w/ the volt problem figuring it was related to the oil pressure situation. Turns out my alternator was dying. Almost left me stranded.

In recap, check to make sure your gauge is lying to you. Drain your oil. (You can never have your oil too clean.) if there is gasoline in it, you will smell it.

Just some ideas.

How exactly slow is crap. Personally, I have had crap that is pretty fast. LOL.

Anyway, the replies above are right on.

If all the stuff these guys have mentioned doesn't solve the problem. Go ahead and change both oil sending units. There are two of them, one behind the manifold that is a cylinder type shape with a wire plugging on to it, and the other is above the oil filter. I bought both of them at Pep Boys for under $20 dollars I believe. My oil pressure was dropping all the way to 0 psi, talk about scary! Thank god it was just the sending unit on the rear of the mainfold, this also solved my oil leak problem that I thought was the rear seal.

I am replacing the guage sending unit..I am also replacing the O2 sensor..Could it perhaps be the charcol canister? I don't know very much about the fuel delivery system..I am throwing out ideas here..I set the pressure of the AFPR to 44..down from 48. I also tighted the little loose metal piece on the top of the AFPR that the vacuum hose plugs into. My oil smells like hot oil..no gas smell at all..Thanks for all the help guys..
