Just bought a 91 RS....

Hi all,

I just recently bought a 91 RS from a guy who took out the 305 and put in a carbed 350. I wanted to get some opinions on what this guy did to the car......

Speed Demon 750 carb
Elderbrock Victor Jr intake manifold
World Prouducts Sportman II heads
Small block 350 4 bolt bored .030 over
Keith Black pistons
File-Fit Plasma-Moly Piston Rings
factory rods, resized? and balanced
factory crank turned 10/10 and polished?
Clevite bearings throughout including cam bearings
Lunati cam (.502 lift ) and hydraulic lifters
Summit push rods
Crane aluminum roller rockers 1.6 ratio
Melling oil pump and oil pick up
MSD ignition, factory distributor and Accell 8mm spark plug wires, custom fitted
Pete Jackson gear drive
hedman headers 1 7/8 inch into 3inch all the way
Turbo 350 with complete rebuild and shift kit, heavy duty sprags
Johnny Winters 2500 stall convertor
Auburn posi unit, with 3 :42 gears
American Racing Atlas wheels and Dunlop tires
less than 5000 miles on all

That is the list of most everything the guy did to the car.

Does it look like a good setup. Does the parts combo look ok?

I asked the guy what he thought the HP was. He guessed in the low 300's. Sound right?

It seems pretty quick. I am happy with it. I just was looking for some comments on the setup as I don't know to much about performance parts.

I'd expect somwhere around 350 at the wheels with a combo like that.

It all depends on the cam, but a flat tappet with .5 of lift is going to have some pretty healthy duration numbers.

Everything looks to be pretty well matched. Have fun...

He also says the compression ratio is 10:1. It also runs on premium pump gas. The idle is pretty noticable but not too lopey. Does this jive with having a .502 lift cam?

Lift doesnt mean much when talking about idle quality. Its more or less the duration in conjunction with lobe seperation angle. In the end, it boils down to the amount of valve overlap that makes or breaks the idle quality.

What are the rest of the specs on the cam

I wish I had them. The only things he could remember about the cam is it was .502 lift and the "power band" was 3500-7500. I looked at Lunati site. The closest thing I could find had these specs....

Description: ROLLER, Fair idle. Good low-end power and mid-range torque. Mild performance use

RPM Range: 2800-6600
Duration: Adv In/Exh 282°/290° @ .050": In/Exh 224° /232°
Lift: @ Valve In/Exh 502" .502" @ Lobe In/Exh .334" .334"
Lope Sep Int C/L: 112° Sep 108° Int C/L
Opens/Closes @ .050: 04°BTC 40°ABC / 52°BBC 00°ATC

Think this has a good possibility of being it?

Part number 50139

If that guy put hydraulic lifters on the cam you mentioned...its going to mess up big time real soon. Not wise to put hydraulic lifters, either flat tappet or roller, on a solid roller cam profile.

Well, if thats the cam, your lift is more like .5488. It wouldnt be my first choice for cams, but you shouldnt have too much trouble.
