Knocking sound?

I am about to purchase(if it's not the engine knocking)a 1991 Firebird Formula. The person I am buying it from said it was making a knocking noise. It quit at about 1400 rpm. She also said that someone else had come out to look at it and told her it sounded like the torque convertor bolts had come loose. Anyone else ever have this proble or have any other suggestions at what to look at or for? The engine was also replaced last year and the tq bolts being loose would make sense if loktite was not used.

that's one reason, maybe exhaust leak, rockers, low oil, or any number of things. i'd tell her to have the TC bolts checked if i was interested in it. wouldn't cost her much, hour labor maybe, and if it fixes it all would be well for both of you.

If it is loose torque converter bolts the noise will go away when the cars not in park or neutral.

She is carrying it to her mechanic today to be checked out. I will know more later this week or early next week. Thanks
