Tapping Harmonic Balancer

One of the pulley attaching holes on the HB is stripped. Is it ok to tap the hole, or would that throw the whole thing out of kilter? ld hate to go buy a new HB if l can tap and continue to use the current one, however, the thought of it shredding at 4K RPM isnt all that great either.

Heli-coil it.

Sure, either tap it or heli-coil it.

Tapping would be a little easier if only the first few threads are stripped, as would happen if a bolt with the wrong thread was tried. As long as the bolt will hold the final torque reading.

Sometimes you'll grab the wrong bolt, like a 3/8-16 and start screwing it in only to realize it's the wrong thread after that sucka gets too tight to turn further - been there, done that. Usually only the first couple of threads are damaged.
