gasket sealant

I just had my 5.0 TPI rebuilt and my question is does the intake need to have sealant put on it plus the gaskets or do you just use the gaskets. I always had problems getting a good seal on the intake. and how about the exhaust manifolds do they gaskets or some kind of sealant or just install to bare metal. also, on the intake bolts. I bought new bolts and they came with a small amount of thread sealant, should i put a little bit more then whats on there now. thanks.

On the intake to block gaskets, I use a little silicon on both sides of the gasket around the water passages only.

No sealer on any of the runners and throttle body gaskets.

Ex. maniflods I have surfaced and use no gasket.

Intake bolts I use liquid teflon sealer.

I use Loctite PST sealant with teflon. (PT# 592) for the intake bolts.

On the passages, just a thin layer spread on with a finger to fill any imperfections.

You don't have to surface the ex. manifolds, I look at it this way, when you put a gasket in, you just opened yourself up to the possibility of having an ex. gasket blow at a later date.

If you surface the manifold and use no gasket, you don't have a problem.

I know a lot of people that use gaskets with no problem, I personally don't use them when using stock manifolds on small and big block chevys.

I do it this way because when I put an engine in, if the ex. leaks and it comes back, I fix it for free. I don't like working for free

on the intake use the side gaskets and put stuff around the intake ports and dont use gaskets in front or back just use 1" thick sealer!
