Installed 383. Now car wont start.........
I figured it could be the fuel since its been sitting for at least 6 months so I put about 5 gallons in and some fuel treatment. I did the general startup exactly how I was told by finding 0 TDC, and turning the rotor towards the #1 plug. I put the wires on in the correct manner *firing order* and I can hear the engine trying to startup after I put the new gas in *made a difference* it didnt even try before the new gas. What else could it be? How do I get the old gas out of the car if thats the problem? Any suggestions would help. I checked spark from the MSD box and coil and they are good. My fuel pressure guage reads around 47-49. All wires are connected and I replaced the little ignition thing in the distributer.

I'd try propane, just to get it running long enough to get to "good" gas or run a hose from your fuel line to a bucket and pump 1/2 a gallon out then re-connect and try again. Good luck!

Attach a hose to huel pressure port that will reach over the side of the car to a catch can. Turn ignition on but don't start. As fuel pump pressurizes, you'll blead off some fuel. May have to repeat to get fuel out. Replace with good fuel in tank.
Also, what I ran into once was that the IAC was so far off with my new setup (prior to the 383) that it would sound like it tried to fire on first crank but nothing after that. After rechecking fuel, base timing, wiring order, spark... I pulled the distributor at many friend's urgings. I had it right the first time and new better than to pull it.
Anyway, after checking everything again, it turned out to be the IAC adjustment. Just needed a little adjusting. When a little force was on the gas peddle, car would start right up, but without it, it wouldn't run. Try the IAC adjustment.
