Quadrajet Vacuum Ports
Quadrajet Vacuum Ports
I have a 1986 computer controled Quadrajet that I'm converting to an Edelbrock 1406. Don't worry I have everything else I need to disconnect the computer. My question is what is each port for on the Quadrajet, I know they are labled by letters like J and K but I need to know what each letter is.

Well, I dont have a Carb here infront of me to referance the numbers For you ( at school )
But I can tell you what most of them are.
Big fat port on the front center bottm, Manifold Vaccum, Hook to PCV.
Big fat port on the front that comes out about half way up and a little angled to the side, ECS fuel bowl Vent. Hook to EVAP canister.
big threaded port on the back, Manifold Vaccum To be hooked to Brake booster.
Small port next to that, Manifold Vaccum to be hooked to the vaccum modulator on tranny.
the rest I think are also all Manifold Vaccum sources, i could be wrong tho. Remember this carb was never designed to be used with a Vac Dist, so Its likely there is No provision For ported Vaccum.
Hope that helps.

Well, the reason I ask is because i'm trying to figure out which ports would correspond to the ports on the 1406, so that way I can hook the vacuum lines up to the proper port on the 1406. There are still a few lines I'm confused about.

You're asking the wrong question. You don't need to know what the vac. lines on your stock carb are...you need to know what to hook up on your new carb.
bort covered it for the most part, you need to hook your PCV to a big fat manifold vacuum port on your new carb, i believe the canister purge would also tie into this as well...i have no idea what you would use to control the purge though, my brain is half dead from writing scripts that don't work.
Then find yourself a nice ported vacuum source for your new vacuum advance distributor. If you thought you were gonna use the stock distributor, no luck there.
As for EGR, that gets ported vacuum as well, but you also will prolly want to hook a TVS in line with it so when your engine is cold it doesn't get EGR.
And obviously you will want to hook up vacuum to the booster.

I still have the two vacuum control valves to connect for the most part. The reason I asked about the stock Q-jet ports is so that i can figure out which ports on the 1406 match up with the Q-jet ports, so I can connect the hoses to the same type of vacuum.
I mean, they look like big splitters, so I'm wondering if it's possible to just disonnect them and run some of hte lines straight through. And my dumbass brother's telling me to just forget about the vacuum canister, but I have no idea if he's right or not.
So... Being that I had a mostly stock setup on my LG4, what do I connect where?

Re: Quadrajet Vacuum Ports
i can open any vac. port and 350 runs fine. i put one vac. to vac advance and it quits running. i retard it some and i get a strange way of running unless i put foot to floor. i don't know what is wrong

Regardless... Your question doesn't even have anything to do with the carburetor. It sounds more like your distributor is off by a tooth and hooking up the vacuum advance is pushing the advance too far for the fuel to ignite.
