smog pump function

I have a lg4 and was going to remove the smog pump. I stopped after I heard that the pump injects air into the cat to keep it from clogging up. If I remove the smog pump completely (right now this is all it is doing) will the cat clog. I will be putting on a strait pipe, should I wait untill then?

I've had mine disconnected for 2 years. Never had a problem. I've got a high flow cat installed as well.

Thanks

Don't bother removing it unless you take your cat off. I took the belt off mine yesterday and it made no difference in acceleration so I put it back on.

If you don't have a sniffer test in your area, you may want to go ahead and gut the cat. It takes awhile to get off, if you've never messed with exhaust before. If you gut it now, then you'll have peace of mind that it won't clog.

Can you tell a difference in sound and power with the cat removed? The one on my camaro was removed when I bought it. I was thinking of doing it to my T/A.

Here's a weird idea, and no, it's not my idea:
Disconnect the smog pump from the exhaust and reroute it into the aircleaner on a carbed engine--good idea or "functionless art"?
I've seen this on an '88 carbed Caddy engine,
but figured it was just an EPA thing. Food for thought.
