Valve tick

Hey guys, I just removed the valve cover on my trans am to pin- point a ticking noise I've been hearing under my hood. I was going to try the engine-running valve lash adjustment thing. But once I started the engine and looked at the valves doing there thing I noticed that one of the valves on the number 6 cylinder (the valve closest to the front of the car) was not moving as much as the other valves. The ticking seems to be eminating from this cylinders valves. Any thoughts as to what might be going on here? Do I have a bad lifter?

Does the rocker and or stud seem to be higher or lower then the rest? Its possible it might be a bad lifter or the nut has lossend up or it might indicate a cam lobe going flat. I'd suggest running it down until it stops ticking and back it off until it starts to tick again then tighten it up till it stops then give it the final 1/2 to 3/4 turn what ever you feel more comfortable with. After you have done this watch the rockers and see if it moves evenly then let us know what ya got.

Mines doing this too, but I can pretty much guarentee that its not a ground lobe, my cam is brand new, so is the rest of the engine....
seems just out of adjustment.

cheers

Actually, if the cam is brand new, it makes it even more likely that it is the problem. Did you properly break in the cam?

broke it in as instructed by my engine manufacturer. 15 minutes at 1500-2500 RPM.

Did everytihng according to how they said.

if it was a cam lobe, then some of my rockers wouldn't be working right?

cheers

BTW I would think that if it was screwed up, then cylinders wuoldn't be firing correctly, the engine sounds mean, idles great, and doesn't shake like crazy cept when I have the idle at around 700 RPM, then it shakes, but thats cause its a lopey cam.

cheers

Is it a roller cam?? Shouldn't require any break in....
