Stalls when In gear

just replaced my heads with a set of Wolrd Product Sportsman IIs, and I can't get it to shift into drive/reverse without stalling. If I give it some gas, it will shift and not stall. The car wasn't running for about 4 months before that. I also replaced the lifters with all new lifters, and the rockers with comp cams magnum rockers. Just looking for things that I can check. Thanks.

Idle could be set too low possibly. I'm no expert on the 700r4's but if they have a TCC switch, maybe its locking when it shuoldn't and causing the problems. I know that it happens commonly on the Berettas,

Maybe you just shouldn't put it in gear?

Look for vacuum leaks

Idle is about 1400 in park, 1000 when I can get it in gear. I'll set it down after I get this worked out.

I don't know how to check to see if the torque converter is locking up.

I'll borrow a cigarette from a friend and check for vacuum leaks.

This is what I have found though. I decided to check my timing, and it was at about 2 * retarded, then I remembered to unhook the computer controlled timing thing by the heater box, and I couldn't find my timing mark. it ended up being right about under the water pump, about 20* advanced. so I figure I put the distributor on the wrong tooth when putting it back in. so, I decided to set it one tooth retarded. now I can't get the freaking distributor cap back on. those freaking little screws suck bad. I like the ones that you push down and rotate, those ones are so much easier. Anyone have any tips on getting those stupid screws on the cap into the distributor? Thanks.

Either too little timing or you're too lean. I dont believe its possible for a torque converter to lock up in 1st gear.
