I have just diagnosed my fuel pump to be bad. Has anyone replaced it without taking out the tank? I mean, cutting into the trunk in order to reach the fuel pump that way? If so, where did you cut it and how big? I have a welded hooker cat back on my car plus the car is parked on the street, so it would be a big pita to do this from underneath. thanks for any help

Yup, drop it down. Where is your cat-back welded? It's not welded at the cat, is it? If so, ouch. Hopefully it's not- when you drop the rear axle down to the ground, you can pull the whole cat-back out from under the car. I actually just left my cat-back under the car, on the ground, and worked around it.

No, you can cut a hole. I've heard of a few poeple doing this. it's not hard, i just can't tell you how to do it. it's much easier and quicker hr. you need to pull up the carpet and go throught the top of the tank, right behind the rear seats.

Yeah, i guess either way would work, but it would be nice if I could make that trap door behind my seats so i can replace the fuel pump more easily not just now, but later in case i'll need a high flow fuel pump.

 

What happens if he cuts into the tank by accident, though?

 

I cut a hole myself in the trunk with a dremel, just make sure you empty the tank. I made sure to make it easy to get to in the future.
