How many hours or how much would shop charge for entire drivetrain overhaul???

Ok guys, it's almost "go time" for me. I need to decide what I'm going to do in the next couple months here. It's between buying a different car altogether and keeping the IROC as a daily driver as it is OR doing an entire overhaul of the IROC's drivetrain and engine and buying a daily driver to replace it. Right now, I'm leaning towards keeping the IROC for my daily driver and buying a pretty sweet car. But, since I bought the IROC, I wanted to do the following, so I HAVE to know for price comparision, what would it cost to have a shop replace the entire drivetrain and the engine. Just labor and maybe some misc. things I'm not thinking about here.

The parts list I have so far is: (1)Tires=$650.00; (2)Wheels-ZR-1 17"x9.5" front, 17"x11" rear=$1,000.00; (3)Complete 9" Rearend-Currie or Strange=$2,300.00; (4)Hotchkis Rearend Package=$325.00; (5) Custom Driveshaft=$700.00; (6) Pro-Built 700R4 Tranny Stage 3=$1,250.00; (6)Vigilante TQ Converter=$750.00
Total for bullet proof drivetrain parts=$6,975.00 I already have poly bushings and endlinks and subframes.

I'm not sure about the engine, maybe have a bulletproof 406 built w/ AFR's and Mini-ram?

So what do you think just the labor would be on the entire drivetrain and engine swap??? Do you think I can do the entire project for under $20,000? The goal is a bulletproof car that runs mid-high 11's and requires as little maintenance as the stock IROC.

The labor wouldn't be all that much as long as the parts are bolt-in. If the rear requires custom bracket welding, etc....The price would go through the roof.

The trans swap would be about 4.0 hours, the rear and components would be about 8.0 hours and the driveshaft and convertor wouldn't be extra, they come out in the tranny swap anyway. Most shops get $50+ an hour. The times are just a guesstimate, and anything that has to be fabricated would increase the time greatly.

Then you start on the engine, which the price of could vary greatly! I'm building a ZZ430 (or the same thing as) for about $3800, maybe less, and that's 430 driveable horsepower!

If you are looking for a shop to do it, the shop I work at is about 30 mins from Columbus (Johnstown) and our labor rate is $40 an hour (inexpensive because of low overhead.) Give me an email if you're interested!

I'm glad to see someone else here from Central Ohio!

JP, thank you for the reply. That is VERY encouraging. I thought it would be A LOT more money. Everything I was thinking of putting in would be bolt-ins, including the rear-end. I still have my eye on another car, but this will defenitely make me think about what I want to do. If I do decide to do the IROC, I will DEFINITELY shoot you an email.
