Ideal Timing?
Ideal Timing?
I am just courious what procedure is reccomended to find the best timing for a particular motor other than dyno tuning? I have always just played with it untill it felt the best but that isn't real accurate and after a few runs they all seem similar.
Can you just advance the timing untill you hear detonation under full throttle and then retard it just enough till it goes away? Seems like that would be the best way but maybe there is another way.
BTW I have a 84 Z28 with the L69 option. Stock shortblock, with a Comp Cams 275 cam, new CC lifters, hardened pushrods, roller rockers, and valve springs. Running a built 700r4 and 3.73 out back. I always run 93 octane and timing is set at like 12 degrees advance at idle (550 rpm). This is in Dallas, TX so there is basically no elevtion also.
What do you guys think?
Thanks...
