How do you remove the diverter valve?

How do you remove the diverter valve?
I recently removed my smog pump and I would also like to remove the diverter valve to help unclutter the engine compartment.
But what do I do with those two sensors that connect to the inside of the diverter valve? I don't want the engine check light to come on.

Some early engines you could just unplug them and the ECM didn't care. I think you are right for your year, however- the ECM will probabloy throw the penalty flag. I have always left it plugged in and zip-tied out of the way, but that looks ugly.
I suspect (but don't know for sure) that the ECM only knows they are there by the resistance across the pins of each plug. If so, you could probably fake it out with a resistor of approriate Ohms (measure the resistance across the pins in the valve with a VOM and then select a resistor of similar Ohms).

Just unplug them and keep them out of the way. You will not throw a code. I just tucked mine behind the AC compressor so that they were not noticable.

Thanks for the knowledge guys. I can't wait to get rid of that thing and have my engine compartment looking much cleaner.
I know this is off the subject, but since Iam trying to unclutter my engine bay, does anyone now how to get rid of that thing that has all the coolant lines going to it and sits over the passenger's side valve cover?

on TBI cars, it gets its water in from the rear of the motor... you can just run shorter hoses and move it back or wherever.
on TPI it gets its coolent from the front... i havent tried to move it someplace else in a TPI car yet...
you COULD bypass it alltogether, but thats a bad idea if you want cold AC.

I removed my heater control valve on my tpi engine because i got rid of A/C. If you still have A/C i would keep it, it stops coolant from flowing through your heater core when the a/c is on so the A/C is more efficient.
Buf it you want to remove it. Disconnect all the hoses that go to it, remove the hose that goes to the metal coolant line on the frame rail and put a cap on it. Get a plastic 90* heater hose elbow in the correct size and connect the hose that goes to the heater core to the hose that goes to the throttle body. In the picture i have the throttle body bypass so it goes to the intake instead of the tb. Then you will have to cut off the vaccum line and cap it somehow.
