Valve springs right ones?

I ordered a ZZ3 camshaft for my 88 IROC and they told me the valve springs I needed were GM# 12551483 and retainer GM# 10212808. Now to my understanding these springs are 1.32 wide and my stock ones are 1.27 wide. Is it posiable to make the pocket fit the 1.32 without being a major machining job? Also am I better off to install PFTE seals so that I don't have to worry about retainer to valve guide interference? I am having new guides put in because it smokes so bad on start up and I want to port the heads anyway. I would appreciate any input you all could give me. Thanks.

i doubt if the spring will fit. you can get the heads machined out for larger springs. i don't remember waht it cost last time i did it, i think 2 dollars a spring to enlarge the pockets. what ever it was it wasn't bad.

Definitely use the Teflon seals. They're the best ones going.

Like ede says, the machine work to upgrade your heads for the larger springs is cheap, if you've already got the heads off and in the shop. If not, the best thing you can do, would be to get the Comp 982 conical springs and the matching retainers, which have much higher lift capability than the GM ones. They're 1.25" at the head and 1.45" at the retainer.
