I start it up, it idles for about 40 seconds, and then the SES light comes on. If I drive it around, the light will go off for about a minute, and then come back on again a minute later. While driving the car is never above 40 mph. I read the tech article on code 32 and it usually happens above 70. Also, my speedo works fine, and the car seems to run ok as well.

The 24 is for a VSS signal missing or intermittent. That's likely the reason your SHIFT light is not functioning.
